In the modern Japanese principles of wabi-sabi, Sabi connotes to the beauty or serenity that comes with age. It correlates to the act of finding beauty in objects or places that are "outdated". With this in mind, we wanted to design a piece that takes beauty from other things, such as inheriting an old craft. At our studio, we started crocheting as a hobby but fell in love with the act of shaping interlocking yarns into an object (sometimes not knowing how it will turn out). We loved experimenting with hand-crochet and design a cropped top that has become a staple in our collection.
